Considering the extent of the religious parallels, I would not be surprised if Sexton had intended on Venus to be thought of as a Garden of Eden type place, making the references to Adam and Eve logical. When I was reading the poem, I envisioned Venus looking like a lush, beautiful paradise ever since the doctors sent back the message that "Venus is Green." Sexton made Venus out to be a lush landscape with plenty of water and vegetation with which life could thrive.
